Undergraduate Programs - Advising

The Department of Biology takes its role in academic advising seriously. Each entering student is assigned to a faculty, academic advisor who will help in the selection of courses each semester, and who will also provide guidance and advice in other areas (e.g., career decisions, fields for future graduate study) as needed. Unless the student requests otherwise, the faculty member initially assigned as academic advisor serves in that capacity until the student graduates. This arrangement serves to provide continuity, and to assure that each student is well known to the advisor.

Specific times for advising are set aside during the period of registration each semester when courses are selected for the following semester. Students must make appointments with their academic advisors during these periods to review course selection and their progress in meeting graduation requirements. In addition, students are encouraged to visit with their advisors at other times, when there is opportunity to discuss and analyze issues or problems which may arise.
